Dr. Kettula graduated from the University of Tampere with a Bachelor of Medicine in 1994 and an Doctor of Medicine in 1998. He published a doctoral thesis in the field of internal medicine (cardiology), and successfully defended his thesis and received his Ph.D. in 2001. Dr. Kettula’s thesis studied the functionality of the chain of care for patients with myocardial infarcation and the distribution of costs per patient in Southern Ostrobothnia. His thesis provides information on challenges faced in the treatment of patients suffering from myocardial infarction. Dr. Kettula also holds a master’s degree in economics (2003). He has studied not only economics and health economics, but also statistics, marketing and accounting. He completed studies in management and the pharmaceutical industry at institutions, including INSEAD in France. He also completed qualifications training in occupational healthcare in 2013 and holds professional practice rights to practice maritime medicine. Since 1996, Dr. Kettula has worked as a doctor in outpatient healthcare and specialist medical care, specialising in challenges in emergency, general and occupational healthcare and in preventive healthcare for cardiac disease. He has also worked with issues in multicultural healthcare, responsible for drawing up policies concerning (e.g. immigrant healthcare). Dr. Kettula has held various specialist and supervisory positions in the pharmaceutical industry, including at Pharmacia and Pfizer. He has specialist competence with health economics, pharmacovigilance and pharmaceutical and healthcare-related policies. He has also acted as a senior advisor for many pharmaceutical companies and companies, which provide healthcare services to companies and associations. Dr. Kettula has acted as a general practitioner in the public and specialized private healthcare sector (e.g. Tampere University Hospital). For more than ten years, he has worked in the pharmaceutical industry in varied consulting and management positions (e.g. Pfizer Inc.). He has particular expertise in international pharmaceutical reimbursement systems, health economics of medicines and health politic related issues. For the previous ten years, he worked as an entrepreneur, and for more than ten years as a private doctor keeping a private practice in Mehiläinen and Diacor. For the past decade, he has been responsible for the immigrants’ health care services in Finland. The basis of Dr. Kettula’s work is the people’s knowledge.
