Professional Summary

Andrew J (Jack) Crew received his BME and MME degrees from Florida State University and taught band in Florida for forty-one years. His marching bands have marched in the Tournament of Roses Parade twice, the Orange Bowl Parade three times, the Cherry Blossom Parade (Washington, DC) twice, the Cotton Bowl Parade, Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and have presented performances for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Professional football games on four seperate occasions. Mr. Crew’s concert bands have received superior ratings at the Florida State Concert Band Festivals thirty times. They have performed at the Southeastern Concert Band Clinic in Troy, Alabama; the Mis-West International Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago, Illinois three times; the Music Educators National Conference twice; the National Band Association Convention twice; and the American School Band Directors Convention. Bands from three different High Schools under Crew’s leadership have performed for the American Bandmasters Conventions. Mr. Crew has served as Conductor-Clinician for five Florida All-State Bands, numerous All-County Honor Bands in Florida, an Honor Band at the Mid-East Band Clinic in 1981, an Honor Band at West Virginia University in 1993, a North Carolina All-State Band in 1993 and an Alabama All-State Band in 1994. He has served as an adjudicator and clinician in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia. Mr. Crew holds membership in the Florida Bandmasters Association, Music Educators National Conference, National Band Association, Phi Beta Mu, American Bandmasters Association and is a past-president of the Florida Bandmasters Association. Mr. Crew served on the Board of Directors for the American Bandmasters Association from 1989-1991. He served on the International Board of Directors for Phi Beta Mu from 1997-2003. During Mr. Crew's tenure at Lakeland High School the Symphony Band received the Sudler Flag of Honor for the second time in 1993, making it the first high school band in the United States, Canada, or Japan to win this award twice. Mr. Crew was inducted to the Florida Bandmasters Association "Hall of Fame" on November 20, 1994. Mr. Crew was Director of Bands at Lincoln High School in Tallahassee, Florida for seven years. The Lincoln Symphonic Band performed at the Southern Music Conference in Atlanta, Georgia in1997 and at the American Bandmasters Convention in 1999 and earned straight Superior ratings at the Florida State Concert Festival for the fifth year in a row in May of 1999. Mr. Crew retired in January, 2000 completing forty-one years of teaching. He is listed in Who's Who Among America's Teachers in 1998, 2002 and in Who's Who in the 21st Century Second Edition 2002.
